Course Module Sample: Entrepreneurial Spirit
Perhaps the most significant new competency required to succeed in today’s nonprofit environment is an entrepreneurial spirit. In the past, executives were expected to manage revenues that were primarily from publicly funded sources. Today, nonprofit survival requires creatively building a diverse revenue base. High performing nonprofits generate investments through a deeper understanding of philanthropy, by being more business-minded and by increasing their nonprofit stock price. High performing nonprofit executives understand that “nonprofit” is a tax status, not a business model, and that growth happens when everyone is focused on growing the top line.
