dennisStrategic Leadership Coach

Dennis C. Miller is a nationally recognized strategic leadership coach with over 30 years of experience. The former CEO of Somerset Medical Center and Healthcare Foundation, Dennis now works with leaders of nonprofit organizations who want a more motivated and cohesive board, inspirational leadership, and a more engaged strategic vision with greater levels of achievement and measurable results. Dennis is an expert in board governance, leadership development and succession planning. He works with organizations across the country, small or large, local or global.

Dennis has advised hundreds of nonprofit organizations across the country on how to unlock their true potential. He has worked with them to improve the integration of board governance, leadership development, strategic planning, and philanthropy. In addition, he is a sought-after motivational speaker, retreat facilitator, leadership performance coach, and consultant.

What most people don’t know about Dennis is that he came by this ability the hard way. As a child and young man, he encountered emotional and physical abuse, difficulty in school, and mental health issues. Yet he refused to succumb to these challenges. At age 20, he voluntarily admitted himself to a psychiatric hospital to attain the care he needed. After a short stay, he continued to reach out to helping hands and chose to believe in his own potential to do and be something more. He spent decades seeking therapeutic support, which enabled him to find the courage, strength, and determination to overcome his obstacles and achieve a level of success and happiness beyond his wildest dreams.

Although his first “career move” might have been mopping floors at a Ramada Inn, Dennis’ hunger for knowledge eventually led to an Ivy League education and success as a nonprofit organization executive. His career included serving as Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer of Holy Name Hospital, and then President & CEO of Somerset Medical Center and Healthcare Foundation, a major teaching medical center in New Jersey. His reputation as a respected healthcare executive resulted in numerous honors, including the status of Fellow in the American College of Health Executives. He has served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the New Jersey Council of Teaching Hospitals, Chaired the Board of Trustees for the Center for Health Affairs, Inc. in Princeton, and served on many other nonprofit boards.

Passionate about leadership and governance, Dennis is the Founder of the Center for Excellence in Leadership, Governance and Philanthropy at Fairleigh Dickinson University, the largest private university in New Jersey. He was Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Saint Joseph’s Regional High School in Montvale, New Jersey, a highly respected academic college preparatory school. He served as Chairman of their Profiles in Excellence Capital Campaign, and was recently inducted into the school’s Green Knights Hall of Fame.

With his latest book, Moppin’ Floors to CEO: From Hopelessness and Failure to Happiness and Success, Dennis is taking his message of hope to any and all who might be thinking that they have run out of places to turn. As Dennis learned, and has shared with colleagues and clients over the years, there is a helping hand waiting for you. And he is determined to help you see it, and take hold. You too can achieve a greater vision for your life.

Dennis is also the author of three books on nonprofit organization success: A Guide to Achieving New Heights: The Four Pillars of Successful Nonprofit Leadership; The Nonprofit Board Therapist: A Guide to Unlocking Your Organization’s True Potential; and The Power of Strategic Alignment: A Guide to Energizing Leadership and Maximizing Potential in Today’s Nonprofit Organizations. Dennis is also a regular columnist for The NonProfit Times, the leading business publication for the nonprofit industry.

Significantly, Dennis’ achievements have not come at the expense of personal joy or close relationships. He has been happily married for 35 years and is the proud father of two sons, and he recently became a grandfather.
